Free Seasonal Radon Testing Program
A new evidence‑based approach to seasonal radon testing
Why We Created This Program
Radon levels change with the seasons, and a single short‑term test doesn’t always give a complete picture. That’s why the Utah Radon Coalition created this program to help families understand how their home’s radon level behaves across the year, not just during a single week. Without seasonal context, families may be misled into thinking their home is safer or more dangerous than it really is.
How the Program Works
Every applicant starts with a short‑term test (2–7 days). A short‑term test provides a quick snapshot of your home’s radon level. It’s the simplest way to begin and helps determine whether additional testing is needed.
1. If your short‑term result is under 8.0 pCi/L:
To understand your true annual radon exposure, you will be provided one of the following "season bridging" tests:
- Long-Term Test (6 Months or More): The most accurate method. Best when the test period will cross multiple seasons.
- Moderate-Term Test (Up to 90 Days): A solid choice when the test bridges two seasons, improving accuracy over short‑term testing.
2. If your short‑term result is 8.0 pCi/L or higher:
The reading is unlikely to be a seasonal artifact. While mitigation is likely imminent, our Radon Navigator™ program provides a set of decision‑making tools that help you understand your exposure and make a confident, informed choice. You can access them by clicking here.
If you decide to mitigate, we will provide a list of certified, Navigator‑approved mitigators who meet our standards for quality and transparency.
A Note About Safety
Radon exposure is cumulative. It does not create immediate danger, and you have time to make informed decisions without pressure.
