Radon is an invasive killer! Radon is
an invisible, odorless, colorless, radioactive gas. Radon is a carcinogen that causes lung cancer in humans. |
Radon is produced in the soil around homes and buildings. It seeps from the soil and enters buildings through normal cracks and crevices.

Lungs are susceptible to radon. Radon
is breathed-in as radioactive particles that enter the lungs, attach to and damage the lung lining and DNA. |
Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers and 2nd in smokers. Yearly 21,000 Americans die from radon induced lung cancer.

UTAH HAS A RADON PROBLEM
The Utah Radon Coalition is Utah's only all-volunteer, nonprofit organization with the mission of eradicating radon-induced lung cancer by eliminating exposure to radon gas. Through our work we know:
We also know that the risks of radon can be avoided through radon awareness, testing and mitigation.
- The Utah Geological Survey has found elevated levels of radon in 90% of soil in Utah.
- Better than 1 out of every 3 homes tested for radon in Utah have high radon levels.
- Nearly 7,000 Utahns have died from Radon Induced Lung Cancer between 1973 and early 2022.
We also know that the risks of radon can be avoided through radon awareness, testing and mitigation.

ABOUT OUR FREE TEST BILLBOARD CAMPAIGN
- Testing is the first step in protecting your family from radon. That's why we are offering free tests on billboards across Utah.
- Testing is available for families who live in the home to be tested. Free tests are not available for real estate transactions.
- Funding to purchase billboard space is provided by an EPA grant administered by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality Radon Program.
- Free Tests are provided by Utah Radon Services, a full-service radon company in Utah.
- The Utah Radon Coalition receives no compensation for this event. All we ask is the test recipient sets and returns the test for analysis and provides basic demographic information on the test application to assist with continued improvement of our free test events.
